Our Stories

Workshops That Open Eyes

“The workshops we’ve attended through Mungano — on identity, mental health, even African history — have really shaped how I see the world. I learned things I never knew about my roots. And being in a space where everyone looks like me, speaks like me, and supports me? That’s rare. That’s powerful.”

Testimonials

“At first I just came to play football. But Mungano made it so much more than that. They taught us about culture, respect, how to be proud of being African. Now I help coach the younger ones. Feels like I’m giving back to a family that gave me everything.”

From our Founders

Mungano started as a simple idea — to create a space where people could feel proud of who they are, where culture could be shared freely, and where young people could see the beauty in their roots. We’ve seen friendships form, confidence grow, and entire families reconnect with their heritage. This isn’t just an organisation — it’s a movement built on love, unity, and the belief that our stories matter. And we’re just getting started.

An array of resources

I didn’t think cycling would become part of my routine, but Mungano’s biking events changed that. It’s not just exercise — it’s freedom, it’s laughs with friends, it’s feeling healthy without pressure. Now I ride every weekend, and it’s become a way I connect with myself and others.

Cookouts and Culture

“My favourite memories are from our food cookouts. Everyone brings something from home — pilau, mishkaki, chapati, mahamri — and we sit, eat, and talk like family. The kids hear stories from back home, the music plays, and suddenly we’re not just in the UK anymore — we’re living our culture right here.”

Amsterdam Tournament – Building More Than Just Goals

“When we travelled to Amsterdam for the tournament, it wasn’t just about football. We invited local police officers to speak with our youth and share stories. It was powerful — seeing young people from our community having open, respectful conversations with the police. It felt like we were building real bridges, not just between cultures, but generations.”

Our Elders

“We’ve seen generations grow up here, some drifting away from their roots without even realising it. Mungano has brought back something many of us thought was fading — the language, the respect, the sense of family. When I see the youth dancing, speaking, and laughing together, I know our culture is in safe hands.”
